Land-Memory

What resonances come from deep engagement with place? What do we carry away with us and what do we leave behind?

My work has always been informed by an engagement with nature and landscape in the very broadest sense; the tales we tell about it and the traces we leave on it. Humankind's interactions with the earth, our relationship with home, with exile and with belonging; all these have surfaced in, and been the background to, my work at different times.

An important thread is the idea that the physical landscape embodies the history of what has happened on it and to it, and that it can be an emotional connection for people who have left their home-place or homeland. I am exploring ideas of nostalgia, regret, inheritance, continuity as well as change.
